I purchased Garmin Nuvi 3760T in March this year. Earlier during the week, I planned my first long road trip from Rotterdam, the Netherlands to Heidelberg, Germany (approx. 500 km).

Before leaving for the trip, I checked the route on Google Maps [ http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source= ... e=UTF8&z=8 ] . The route primarily consisted of driving on motorways.

I then started off from Rotterdam with the aim of following the Garmin route. My assumption was that Garmin will follow more or less the same route as Google Maps. Unfortunately, Garmin took me off the motorways numerous times. While going to Heidelberg, I set "Fastest Time" as the routing preference. I assumed that this meant that I will be taken on the motorways. However, I had to go through numerous towns in the Netherlands and Germany instead of following the motorways. On the way back, I changed the options to "Less Fuel", "Shortest Distance" and "Fastest Time". However, I still had to pass through some German towns.
Can you please me how do I instruct Garmin to follow motorways as far as possible?

Thanks!
Dhaval

Yeah, stop setting those filters and it'll probably put you on the 'motorways'.

Check your "Avoidances" - on the Garmin Nuvi 50, it is under "Settings | Navigation | Avoidances". If you have told it to "avoid motorways" - guess what?! It will try to find a route which avoids motorways!
