I have a Garmin GPS60CSx that I use with MapSource 6.16.3. I plan my trips on MapSource then download the maps, routes and waypoints to my 60CSx.

My maps are out of date. Has anyone successfully bought the NuMaps Lifetime product and updated the maps for MapSource installed on their PC? How did you do the update?

If MapSource can't be directly updated with NuMaps Lifetime maps, can I buy the NuMaps, download to the microSD card in my 60CSx, then upload those maps to MapSource?

I can't answer your questions but just posting general information for those who might not know about NuMaps (link).

Actually, that link is just for the NuMaps Guarantee which says if you buy a product you can get a one-time free update if one is released within 60 days of purchase. NuMaps Lifetime goes beyond that in that you can make a one-time purchase for quarterly map updates for the lifetime of your Garmin product. See http://jahia.garmin.com/garmin/cms/us/maps/numaps-lifetime.

I don't think you can update your maps on the PC with this product. It is locked to one gps and the update goes directly to the gps.

Take a look at this site: http://www.gpsmagazine.com/2009/02/hands-on_with_garmins_numaps_l.php

I use a Macintosh and RoadTrip or BaseCamp, so my answer might not grander to PC and MapSource. That said, one of the options when updating the maps on my nuvi is to update just the maps on the unit or both the maps on the unit and on the Mac. I can't imagine that they would let you do it on the Mac but not on a PC.

What I have found out is the NuMaps Lifetime maps download has the option of updating the MapSource map database on your PC as long as you have the GPS they are registered to connected to your PC. However, the Lifetime maps are in the NT format and my current maps were in the older database format, so the Lifetime maps could not be used until I bought a full version (not upgrade version) of the maps in the NT format first. So, that is what I did. I bought the 2011 City Navigator NA DVD and upgraded the maps on my PC. Then, I selected the map tiles I wanted and transferred them to my GPS.

After spending $75 to get my maps into the NT format I am less inclined to immediately spend another $76 to get the lifetime updates. I can live with the 2011 database for a few years before the maps get out of date and then decide at that time to go for the lifetime updates if my GPS is still working fine for my needs.

Another thing I found out is that if you want to update the maps on your PC, you have to use the DVD or download version which supplies the maps in the format used by MapSource. If you buy the maps on a chip, they are in the compiled format used by your GPS but not by MapSource. For an explanation, see https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?t=13862.

You ask several questions, less interrelated than you hope ...

I own a Quest I, C330, and Nuvi 255. The 255 came with lifetime maps. The latest maps for the Quest are 2008. I've updated the 255 twice. I select to update my PC and unit. In mapsource, I see 3 Garmin maps, CNNA2008, CNNANT2010.4, and CNNANT2011.3. I can view and import with any active. BUT, I can only load the Quest with maps, Garmin POIs, and routing information owned for it, CNNA2008.

I'm ignorant of the 60CSx details; if you own lifetime FOR IT, you will be able to update the unit and computer approximately quarterly. Further, as I understand it, you can put the maps on both your laptop and desktop legally. I've forgotten where to make the selection to update the computer; I missed it on several of the updates I've done on my and a friends system. Memory is that you have to uncheck something like update unit only, but I forget ... someone else may chime in.
