can someone help. want to but a gps that will give me real time long and lat of my position and will enable me to go to a specific long and lat that i have been given.hope i explained well enough.

On foot or in a vehicle? Do you want to see maps? How much do you want to spend?

on foot.maps not important.just real time gps long and lat as i walk.dont really know a price but needs to be accurate within a few meters

Those are basic features om most handheld units. Most also have a screen showing a pointer indicating the direction and distance to the point. Coordinates are commonly stored in 'waypoints' which can be navigated to using the pointer or other screens including a plot showing the waypoint and your present position.

The Garmin eTrexH is a good basic model (link)

However it only has a serial interface and does not come with a computer cable. The eTrex Venture® HC (link) comes with USB interface and cable and has a color display as well.

I've got an Etrex Venture, but any tracking gps will let you set waypoints. If you set a waypoint, when you get out of your car, then head off into the woods. then set a few more, by the big rock, or the brook, with a reasonable clear view of the ski, when you want to return, select the waypoint that you want to head to and hit goto and then just follow the arrow. Soon you will be back at your car.
