I have a Garmin Gpsmap 60CSx. I have mapsource with MetroGuide N. America V.8. I know how to save as GPX. Where can I go download the photo and put the gpx on it and print the photo out? What is the best site to buy the areial photo that will let me upload my gpx file to overlay and then download? The google site is not clear. I would like a newer photo than the USGS site if posible. Is there a program I could down load the photo into and put the gpx in it also than print out? I am very new to this. I am trying to mark the property lines for a track of land and put this on the photo. I can either upload the gpx file or download the picture then do the over lay. I don't care . Thank you for any help.

I use the GPS Visualizer website to get screen shots of my GPS tracklogs and/or waypoints.

Go here:
http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/map?form=google

Simply specify the GPX file that has your data and click on "Draw the map" button. After the map is drawn, you can use the dropdown list to select satellite, Topo, road map, etc

Thank You. This above link is a great site. The only problem is I can only use the older USGS maps for my area. My other option is to download a map with a world file then find GIS software to load the jpeg and world file then load the gpx and print. Is there a simple program that will do this? Thanks

Probably not, but one you might try is TrackMaker ( http://www.gpstm.com/ ). It has the abilty to load an image file and allow you to calibrate it as a map. It also interfaces with most brands of GPS to allow up/download of waypoints, tracks, and routes.

If you are able to find a suitable aerial photograph, use your GPS to find the coordinates of some easily identified points on the photo and then calibrate the photo in TrackMaker. At this point you should be able to load your GPX file to your "map".

I've used TrackMaker to reverse engineer a 200 waypoint route by merely knowing the coordinates of one waypoint when all I had was a photocopy of the layout of the route, without the underlying map.

This is a great program and easy to work with. I was able to to download a photo. Import photo into TrackMaker. Then enter the coordinates into Trackmaker and import my GPX file. The track was a little off but close enough. Once I play with it more I think I can correct the map to match the track. Maybe in the future you will be able to import the photo with the world file and not have to enter the coordinates. This might be more accurate. If there are any more programs that will do this please post. Thanks for your help.

Another freeware option would be USAPhotoMaps

USAPhotoMaps downloads USGS aerial photo and topo map data from Microsoft's free TerraServer Web site, saves it on your hard drive, and creates maps with GPS accuracy

Commercial software that will work also with images include http://www.oziexplorer.com/ and http://www.fugawi.com

USAPHOTOMAPS is a great program also. It does download the USGS map with coordinates then all I had to do was import my GPX file. This makes a very good map.

Can you import your own jpeg map with worldfile into this program?

Thanks

I use gpsbabel to convert the gpx file to a kml file, the open the kml with google earth and select the waypoint. But you say the google earth image is not clear for the locations you are interested. so you can consider other world image sites like terraserver. or Microsoft Virtual Earth.

Check out gpsbabel, it is a freeware gps file format converter thant handles dozens of formats. http://www.gpsbabel.org

You might also check out OziExplorer. You can georeference any image if you know the location of a few spots. There's also GlobalMapper which is a really powerful program that can do almost anything :)
