Nuvi 255

I want to drive from Norfolk,Va. to Annapolis,Md.
My Nuvi keeps computing a route that takes me up through or near Richmond,Va. I don't want to go that way, I want to go up what is called the Eastern Shore and take rte. 13 to Annapollis. How can I force it to go the way I want, even though I know it's a few miles longer ?

Thanks, richie

You will need to set up an intermediate waypoint along the route you want to use and select that first.

I have sort of the same issue when I drive to SPI the GPS wants to send me in a much more southernly route when I prefer the major highway through Oklahoma City as I drive at night as opposed to coming through Muskogee. I set up waypoint just outside Oklahoma City then route through to SPI. I know with my eTrex I can set it up on my computer and transfer to the unit. I recently got a Nuvi 650 and as yet have not tried it on the same trip, however, I anticipate just having to first go to Oklahoma City (or close to it) THEN insert my next waypoint for SPI. While one "could" set up more complete routes on some of the older GPS units (eTrex of Garmin-18) fact is my wife found them very confusing and couldn't really use either one. True the Nuvi is dumbed down but my wife can now use the unit and I've heard her say that she really likes the "GTO"(?) with that take me home button.

You don't have to make it so difficult to force it to go another route.

Whenever that happens to me, I just ignore the GPS and go on my merry way. The GPS will notice I am not following the route, and it will just re-calculate based on where I now am. Yeah, I know, I know, it get upset and beeps at me, but so what. In a few seconds, I have my new route recalculated. Yes, sometimes it does get annoying when it really wants me to go his/her way, but no biggie.

So if you want to go from Norfolk to Annapolis via route 13, well, when you come to exit 13, just turn and go. The GPS will catch up.
