Is the Roadmate update really available? Their website kept pushing back the release date. They finally did issue it and I ordered it three weeks ago but it still hasn't even shipped. The customer service outsourced to India is useless, they just read from a script.

Thank you for replying.I did not order the update and I have dealt with the people in India when I had another problem with my Magellan and found the only way to deal with this company is to send a certified letter to their headquarters in California. Then and only then did I get the service I needed.

Never did get a response to my complaints to corporate headquarters but I finally got the update.
Everything went well although it takes two hours to download even with a fast computer. So turn off all screensavers and "hibernation" settings. If you're running Windows Vista like me, don't let Windows scan the 760 like it was an external drive, that will wreck everything I'm told.

Denver: I am curious as to what version you received for your 760. I too have a roadmate 760. I just purchased the map update. It says it's Firmware 5.36 and the CD list map update Q3 2006 USA/Canada. I cant' find version 6 stated anywhere. The customer support person said that this was the right update. What does your's say? Thanks in advance for your response.

Yes, that is the version everyone is getting and everyone is questioning. I guess it depends on what they consider "up to date."
I regret not looking into GPS forums before buying the Magellan. I wouldn't have done it had I.

Hi, I have a 3 year old Magellan 700 that got upgraded to a 760 when I installed the Ver 5 map update in Aug 2006. I had similar problems with the V5 update but it finally worked (I had to reformat my PC afterwards though due to all the things that Magellan had me turn off and disable).

Important note: Before performing the update make sure you back-up ALL YOUR ADDRESSES. According to Magellan tech support, the V6 update will wipe out your addresses and waypoints, the instructions "fail" to inform you of this.

I've tried to perform the V6 update on 4 computers using 3 different operating systems (Win XP Pro S/P 2, Win 98, Ubuntu). 2 of my DVD Reader/Writers refuse to read the update DVD at all, the other 2 DVD reader/writers allow me to start the update process (Win XP and Ubuntu) but BOTH fail in the same place every time, 25% of the way reading the INDEX.XFL file. I've tried to copy the DVD to a couple of different hard drives, I've tried to Windows back-up the DVD, I've even tried to WinZip the DVD, all these functions fail when reading the INDEX.XFL file.

I've spoken with (AT) the Magellan tech support people on 6 occasions; since they are following a very limited script (the same script they used in Aug 2006), they have been unable to help me. I've tried to convince them that there's a problem with the software (just like last time) but they can't seem to understand that. They are trying to tell me that my unit has failed and I should send it in. I want them to send me a working DVD first, or explain to me why the DVD's don't work (w/ V5 it was proprietary anti-piracy measures on the DVD).

Magellan wants $80 for this Ver. 6 update. I consider this quite expensive for minor updates, since I already purchased the original MAP license when I bought the 760, and I suspect that no more than $60 of the original price I paid went to the database supplier for the ENTIRE database. Does anyone know where I can find a used Version 6 update disk? BobHubel@att.net
