Just checked Garmin.com, and none of the topo maps are listed for the Nuvi series. Several products are listed on SD card for the Nuvi, but none of the topo mapping products.

I saw that you can request a MapSource DVD be sent to you if you bought the c550, can the same be done if you bought a Nuvi 350?

Yes. You would find Mapsource of little value with the 350, but you can request it. It is good for the following: (1) marking your waypoints (destinations), and uploading them to your Nuvi, or (2) it is like having your own personal copy of Mapquest. The Nuvi will not accept route planning from Mapsource, which several other GPS devices will.

Thanks for the info Joel. I guess a followup is this, is the c550 any different in these aspects from the Nuvi? Will Nuvi accept route planning from Mapsource?
Thanks!

Billy asked: is the c550 any different in these aspects from the Nuvi? Will Nuvi accept route planning from Mapsource?

No - the mapping feature set of both units is identical. They are, however, shaped differently, and the C550 has Bluetooth for hands-free phone use. Consequently, the purchaser of a C550 would have little use for Mapsource, other than the things I mentioned. None of the Nuvi line of devices will accept route planning with Mapsource. One destination (predetermined based on defaults set in the device) with one stop permitted between start and destination.

Follow this procedure.

Touch settings/Touch locale/touch the time/touch OK/touch OK/touch ON/touch OK. The device should now show the correct time. Touch Back until you return to the main screen.

I have my Nuvi 350 on order and was wondering if it has a global base map. If I leave North America will it give me a general idea of my location? I have seen an older eMap and it does have a general map of the world. I will travel from time to time but don't drive at those locations so a general idea when traveling or cruising would be nice.

Thank you,
Gary

I've never tried it, but I don't believe that it will. Depending how often you travel outside of North America, you might want to consider looking for an inexpensive SD card (via e-bay or some other source) with maps preloaded for the area you travel to.

I see that someone mentioned that you can get a 'free map update' within a year of purchasing a Garmin ( I have a Nuvi 660). The map installed is the most current one, I think, but there should be an update out before the year is up. How do I get this map for free when it is available.

The Garmin website does not seem to show this information.

Also how do I request the Mapsource DVD?

TIA Tim

You only get a free map update if you purchase your device after the release date of the map updates. Otherwise, they are usually $75.00 for the DVD updates (should be version 9 this time around, which I don't believe has been released yet).

Greetings. Just got my Nuvi 350 and can't wait to go for a drive...
A quick question... I hope someone can help.

1) All three cables that came with the unit (the power adapter, car charger and Computer USB cable) have the exact same looking connector as my Blackberry Phone. Does any one know if I can use the cables from my Blackberry with the Nuvi??
Thanks,
FMG

I've been searching around for the answer to the question whether the Blackberry 8700's AC power plug (i.e., the home charger) will work with my Nuvi 350. Has anyone done it?

Power supplies are pretty much specific to the devices they power, so I, personally wouldn't try it. The power supply I use for my Nuvi 350 has the following output specifications:

5V +/- 1.0A (5W)

If your Blackberry supply does not have those exact specifications, I would not use it. Additionally, the input pin configuration on the Blackberry could be different than those of the Nuvi. You've already invested quite a bit in the Nuvi, and the external power supply for it would be a very cheap price to pay to ensure you don't turn the Nuvi into toast.

1. Can I install only one map from the Europe City Nav DVD, or I have to install ALL of the maps on the disk?
2. Do these "full version" country maps included on this Europe City Nav provide the same amount of detail like the US maps, or less?
3. I'm aware that G states that cards up to 2Gb can be used with the 350, but did anybody actually try a higher capacity card?

TIA

Tried a million things? Oh my - I guess you've covered about everything. I'd suggest that you call Garmin tech support and ask them (assuming you got the maps on SD card from them).

If you received them on a DVD, they will overwrite the ones on the device. DO NOT try to erase the maps on the device - simply update them with the supplied DVD.

Are you talking about Euro maps or North American maps? NA maps are 2008, which is the latest release. Some people are calling them version 8, but they are actually 2008. I don't know what the latest version of Euro maps is, but they should be listed as an accessory on the Garmin web site.

Hello Joe,

I am a very very new member in GPS world.
After reading all threads, planning to buy Nuvi 350.

Question:

Latest version of Map. If I buy one now will I get it ? or shall I wait for couple more weeks/months for a new release eg. 2007 or whatever ?

And, If I missed any turn, this unit will re-route and put me on correct way automatically ?

Sorry about silly question but this is my requirement.

Thanks in advance.
Vikas

Sorry - I've been out of town - wasn't ignoring you. Units currently selling should have the 2008 map set on them. Answer to your other question is yes, it will route you back to your route if you miss a turn. The unit has "avoidances" that you can program. If you wish to avoid U-Turns, it will take that into account when it gets you back on your route. If a U-Turn is unavoidable, however, it will tell you to make a U-Turn to get you back. It really does very well at getting you back on route.
