First of all I have windows XP with the MapSend Topo US.

I connect my unit to the USB cable and I do get the file transfer mode on the units screen. The PC says the driver was installed and ready to use.
Then a PC window will pop up with the folders from the unit in there. Ok so what do I do with the folders? Or do I just need to close the window?

2nd. Having the US topo open I tried to download from GPS option under tracks and or waypoints and it pops up a window that says failer to connect. So under the options tab I went to GPS settings and did the Auto search where it is searching COM ports. It comes up with negative results.

Now, if I hit menu on the GPS and go to communications and change the NMEA to the V2.1 option it will place a triagle on the topo map. But I have no idea what that feature is for. So while in this setting I went to the GPS down load option and tried downloading from the GPS again and it tells me to turn off the NMEA.

Thanks

Troy

By the way. My brother has the same computer and same GPS unit and has the same issues that I do with the connection.

One more question. Is it a Baud rate problem? Do I need to change it in the GPS unit?

I talked to Magellan support about a similar issue with my Explorist 600 and MapSend DirectRoute.

Do you have a piece of software named "Conversion Manager". It should have come in the box with your Explorist. If not, it is downloadable from Magellan.

Anyway the support people said I needed to use the "Conversion Manager" as a go between. This software converts data on the Explorist unit to data that is usable by the "DirectRoute" program, in my case.

------------
The options on the first screen are...

What do you want to do?
Convert Waypoints / Routes / Tracks
Transfer Map Regions

You select one or the other, and choose next.

------------
Screen Two asks you to turn on your unit, a secure digital card reader will work too.

------------
Screen Three says the following..

Convert to eXplorist (you have something on your PC to put on the eXplorist)
Convert to MapSend (you have something on the eXplorist to put on the PC)

again pick one or the other.
------------
Screen 4 is a file transfer dialog box. You may have to try this out to see this screen. You pick a file to transfer and it does the appropriate conversion.

When I use MapSend I tried once to directly communicate with the eXplorist. No joy. That's where the conversion program comes into play

Hope this gives you some ideas.
