Hi, I am new to this forum and not much experience using my Lowrance Globalnav12. My question is how can I navigate to a waypoint at very slow speed... example: I am fishing in a river drifting with the current at about 3mph. I catch a fish and mark that spot with a waypoint. I want to drift over that spot again and am moving at the speed of the current. My gps does not navigate because I am not moving fast enough. Is this the same with all gps or would buying a newer one solve this problem.

youre going to need a 5Hz unit ..one with the mediatek mt3 chipset.
you might be a ble to do it with a laptop and a mt3 usb recvr.
normal gps units wont help too much.

This is not a problem with most GPS and does not require a 5Hz unit. The worst offenders are Lowrance with pinning options and Magellan's auto averaging. Both these features are useless features.

Your GN12 does not navigate because you probably have Position Pinning turned on? which is more designed for the days of Selective Availability in that once the receiver stopped moving the position indication was locked until the receiver started moving again.

Look under Menu>GPS Setup>Pinning. If ON is highlighted then turn it OFF.

Why can't you navigate while moving at a slow speed? There is nothing wrong with your GPS, and it also does not require a 5HZ unit, and it also does not need any new chipset, and it does not need a laptop either.

I have a very old Garmin-45 that I purchased over 12 years ago. A very basic unit, but a very good unit for the mid 1990s. I use it for sailing, and sometimes when there is no wind, and stuck in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, well, you are not going to be moving very fast, but the GPS track it just fine. It gives me my LatLon, my track, my waypoints, etc. Worked great.

Try changing the settings on your GPS, and try it again.
