I'm looking into buying a new Sierra, as my Explorer died. I'm not impressed with the built in topo maps, but the hi-rez ones you can get from Lowrance look great. But it's $100 per suite of states, and they don't offer the states I want on the same disc. So I'd need multiple discs.

They also offer an a la carte download service where you can buy just the areas you want and charge by the "pound". (http://www.mapselect.com/) Anyone know about what that costs? For say the area of a typical western state? You can't get a price without logging on, and you can't register until you have a serial number.

ps, lessons learned: Remove the explorer batteries before long periods of non-use. Mine leaked and must have screwed up the antenna or it's circuits.

You can find smaller map segments for lower cost at www.MapSelect.com

I have not tried any of them yet, but may.... depending on response from Lowrance. I just purchased a Sierra and have discovered that there are MANY streets missing from their database. My entire neighborhood is missing! This development was started 11 years ago, and finished over 5 years ago. Google Maps and all the others have it, and DeLorme has it in their PN-20 (my daughter has one), but the Sierra omits the entire development. Have since discovered other roads missing as well, and changes due to construction that were complete over 5 years ago are not yet in the Sierra maps. It's absurd that all the internet map services have those changes, and accurately!, but the Endura Sierra does not. Lowrance should have an online map update area where customers can get changes, and report ERRORS (my daughters street is over a quarter mile off!), and report MISSING DATA.
