I'm looking into buying a new Sierra, as my Explorer died. I'm not impressed with the built in topo maps, but the hi-rez ones you can get from Lowrance look great. But it's $100 per suite of states, and they don't offer the states I want on the same disc. So I'd need multiple discs.
They also offer an a la carte download service where you can buy just the areas you want and charge by the "pound". (
http://www.mapselect.com/) Anyone know about what that costs? For say the area of a typical western state? You can't get a price without logging on, and you can't register until you have a serial number.
ps, lessons learned: Remove the explorer batteries before long periods of non-use. Mine leaked and must have screwed up the antenna or it's circuits.
