If anyone out there has been using a Magellan eXplorist 600 or XL for "serious" work to capture waypoints and tracks and transfer to a PC, please contact me. I'm trying to find out if it meets my needs & have a bunch of questions.

I'm looking for a GPS that allows me to save waypoints/POIs to a flash memory card and these look intriguing. (specifically the use of a "pc-style" hierarchical file system on the SD card instead of the stupid flat namespace that most GPSs seem to use when you acquire waypoints)

Jason,

I am using a Magellan eXplorist XL NA. I use it to connect to a PC with both the Magellan MapSend Topo software and DeLorme Street Atlas 2007 Plus. I use a product titled gpsbabel to make quick and easy exchange between the Street Atlas and the XL. It took a little study of the manuals and support of the Yahoo Groups eXplorist and the Delorme forums to get a lot of questions answered.

I use my eXplorist for both business and recreation.

Send me a PM and I will try to answer your questions or point you in the right direction.

I am happy with my XL.

Steve
