Hello everyone, this is my first post to this forum. My name is Drew and I work at an airbase in Honduras. I bought a Dakota 20 a couple of weeks ago as my first GPS and I really like it. I was able to get a couple of custom maps loaded. One was from OSM and the unit routed me though Tegucigalpa, no problem. I'll use the unit mostly for geotagging photos and some geocaching.
My problem: instead of buying a $30 power cable for my car, I tried a mini-USB cable for a cell phone. The unit powered on but it went into USB mode. Does anyone know if there's a trick to get the Dakota to power on normally? If that's not possible, has anyone figured out how to hack a mini-usb cable so that it works correctly?
I've read that the Garmin cable is difficult to use in the car due to it's configuration...plus I'm cheap! I want to buy a cable for less money!
Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions, and have a great day.
