I recently got a Oregon 450 for backcountry hikes and backpacking. I am getting very very inaccurate trip distance (Trip Odometer) milage. I have done 3 trips with it and each time it has come up short of what I know the distance to be. This week we did 10.5 miles and it came in as 7.3 miles. The weak before it was 10ish and it came in at 6.35, and the week before that we did 4.71 and it came in at 3.36.
On the road it is right on compared to my Nuvi, so that leads me to believe that there is some setting that needs to be tweaked.
I just got off the phone with Garmin support and their only suggestion was to calibrate my altimeter. I will do so, but I don't see that fixing 3 miles on a 10 mile trip.
Also, every time I hike with my Oregon it is on the should strap of my backpack, so it not a reception issue.
If anyone has had this problem, or has an idea or suggestion, it would be GREATLY appreciated.
