I had this on my old garmin, soz when you switch it on but don't want to record (connecting to PC in the house for instance).

I wasn't able to suss it out for the eTrex 30, so had a look in the OM, P26.
Aha, great I thought... but when you go to that menu on the device there isn't such an option????

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Update from Garmin support (which seems to work),

"The eTrex 30 has the ability to operate without the GPS on, however on
the handheld itself this will be referred to as Demo mode. You can find
this option by going to Main Menu > Setup > System > Satellite System
and choosing the Demo mode option."
