hello everyone :D ..i have just come across your site through a link with rotwieler maps and i think this is just what i have been looking for :D ...i have looked at the faq's for some info but as i'm new to gps a lot of it went over my head!!..i will be using my etrex vista hcx for my upcoming cycle tour of s e asia so i have lots of question's which i will apologise for in advance.at the moment i'm trying to learn about tracks....
what do you recommend for the setting's in the set-up for cycling and trecking.do i leave it on auto or should i use time or distance.also if i save to data card can i only use this for uploading to my p.c or can i still use the track back option???

many thanks

Hi and welcome to the forums. The GPSFAQs.org: GPS Information website (http://www.gpsfaqs.org/) has good information about your eTrex. See "Garmin eTrex Vista HCx FAQ: Tracks" (link) for answers to your questions.

Best setting IMHO is "auto" and "most often"
If you want to geotag digital photo's then its beter to set it on "time" and 10 secondes or less.

The default setting "3000" is the number of trackpoints you can see on your screen, the max is 10.000.
It has nothing to do with the active log it self, which has a max of 10.000 point.

The setting "auto" and "most often" is usualy enough for 2 or 3 day's
It puts less trackpoints on straight parts, and more in the curves.
It give's you the best looking tracks.
