Is it possible to download National Geogrphic Topo files to an MMC card so as to be recognized as ".usr" files by this Lowarance device?

The short answer is no. :( Each brand uses it's own proprietary format for maps for it's GPS receivers so you will not be bale to transfer the maps to your Lowrance.

I believe that you can use the National Geographic Topo to transfer data such was waypoints, routes and tracklogs.

First, thank you for such a timely response.

Second, which brand(s) and models will provide (for a fee) downloads of topos to the GPS to supplement the non-detailed maps of roads which are preloaded? My old Magellan would allow me to enter waypoints in lat/lon or UTM and I can even do that on this ifinder I purchased today (or not easily it appears). Are you aware of any in the $300 or less range which will permit such - and has a usb port to facilitate the dowloads?
