Hi,

I have an HTC mobile phone with GPS built in, and it's great in combination with Kompass hiking maps (http://kompass.at/). However, if I leave the device running to record a track and end up with the elevation profile, the battery is dead before I'm halfway done with the hike.

So I'm thinking about getting the cheapest GPS possible. I'd only use it to record tracks and in the end get the elevation profile (against time and distance). Any recommendations? The Garmin eTrex looks like the way to go, but I'm hoping to spend even less than $100.

Thanks!

The basic eTrexH is probably the least expensive. Be aware that it has a serial interface and does not include a cable. You may want to get the eTrex LegendH (link) which has a USB interface and comes with a cable.
