I'm pretty GPS'd out. I have a Nuvi 760 for the car. A Northstar 12" screen GPS on the boat and now I need something for the woods and hiking. The reason I am writing this is because I could't find a topic that addressed this issue. I am over 50 and of course, I need reading glasses. I would prefer not having to carry them around in the woods. Wearing half glasses while strolling around and hiking just doesn't do it for me. No it's not vanity, just inconvenience. That being said, I would think that a large display in a unit I can use for hiking would be beneficial, so long as it had an adequate zoom feature. I would like TOPO as well as street maps. I have a 7 year old Garmin 76S and it had a hard time acquiring and retaining satelites under the forest canopy. I assume that this has improved, has it not?
In any case, I looked at the Colorado and the Oregon and both have a 3" screen. Does anyone make a larger screen? Also, does the external antenna matter in terms of reception between these two? Would a Nuvi offer a larger screen with portability and as good reception under the forest canopy?
You guys here re the pros and I am hoping for some good guidance.

Thank you in advance for your help.
Regards
Ray

A larger screen doesn't help if you need reading glasses, big letters and long arms, that's what will help you. I have the same problem

Some units can zoom in and there may be some that have the ability to increase font sizes. So I thought I would give this forum a shot. Arm extensions are out of the question. No surgeon wants to do it.

I have reading glasses +1.5 and a 60CSx when I make the letters as big as posible I still need the glasses. Maybe the nuvi's are working different but for outdoor units I think you have to live with the fact that you aren't the young god, you used to be, anymore

So carring your reading glasses with you for the rest of your live will be your destany (???????????????) But your not alone

I have them on my boat for tieing hooks etc. They get loaded with salt spray and quickly become opaque. In the woods, they will be wet with rain. I got laser surgery years ago to correct my near sightedness and now I am 20/20 but there is no proven fix for presbyopia. When there is, I'll be first on line.

Thios looks like it will have a somewhat biiger screen. I'll have to wait and see. Can anyone comment on whether these new units track as well under the forest canopy?
