I've recently installed the Garmin Basecamp software, using it with Garmin TOPO USA 2008. When I run it, a message comes up that says my PC won't be able to display the DEM shading, and that I need to update my video driver. My computer is not that old, it's a 2008 Dell laptop with Windows Vista. It seems strange to me that the Garmin software would have any problem with a 2 year old computer. Nevertheless:

After some investigation into what this means exactly, it seems Basecamp requires OpenGL version 1.3 or higher. My video card is an ATI Express 1150. I went to the Dell website and there was an update, I installed it, but it still doesn't support OpenGL (apparantly) because Basecamp still complains and doesn't show DEM shading.

I'm wondering if I'm in a rare situation, and nobody else is having this problem. I'm also wondering if I have any options, short of getting a newer video card (which I'm not willing to do to run one software).

I'll appreciate any discussion!
Thanks,
Norm
