I compared the 24K Topo to non-24K and I do not really see how 24K can benefit me. I do see more detail in terms of the elevation lines. What am I missing here?

How did you compare them. If you aren't looking at the right area and zoomed in far enough they will look quite similar. The difference may not be worth it to you, but there is a great difference.
